Why has the 30-day limitation period been removed?

The previous Canadian medical cannabis legislation, called Access to Cannabis for Medical Purposes Regulations (ACMPR), included a “30-day limit rule”, meaning a federally licensed seller could not dispense to a patient more than 30 times the daily dosage in a 30-day period, and no more than 150 grams of product at any one time. This rule was removed from the Cannabis Act to ensure no disruption in your supply of medicine.

By removing the 30-day limit rule, has this changed my Veterans Affairs Canada or Insurance Coverage?

There are no changes in your monthly or yearly allocation for reimbursement coverage. As always, anything purchased outside of the monthly or yearly allocation will not be covered. If you have any questions, please reach out to our Shoppers Cannabis Care Team.

What are the rules for public possession of cannabis?

The amount of medical cannabis indicated on your medical document is related to your public possession limit, meaning how much you can carry with you as you go about your day to work, school or other areas. If you purchase a large quantity of cannabis, you may only carry around with you 30 times your allotted daily amount or the equivalent of 150 grams, whichever is less.
